Howe House (above), built of cypress wood, is over 80 years-old. Luella Street donated the house and 42 acres on Lake Ned to Audubon in the 1970s. Mabel Howe donated money to move the building to the present location. Call 863.324.7304 for a tour of the house; follow the Brown Great Florida Birding Trail signs from Cypress Gardens Boulevard to Street Audubon Center. Map and written directions to Street Audubon Center.

Howe House is the home of Lake Region Audubon Society and Street Audubon Center, serving Winter Haven, Bartow, Lakeland, Auburndale and nearby communities in Central Florida.

Many trees were lost in the three hurricanes in the summer of 2004. The trails have been restored and there are trail guides to our hiking trails. Street Audubon Center is on the

http://floridabirdingtrail.com/.  We have a large butterfly garden. Volunteers keep the grounds open to the public Monday - Saturday, 9 - 3. The center is usually closed on Sundays and holidays. There is a large parking lot. Dogs on leash are permitted on trails; bicycles and horses are not permitted on trails. In case of severe fire conditions or other emergency, the gate may be locked.
